Day 1: Welcome to Panama!

When your plane touches down in Panama and you pass through customs you will be greeted by your friendly tour representative who will be wearing a yellow shirt and holding a sign with your name on it. You will then be transferred to Colonial Panama City and the luxurious Sofitel Legend Hotel Casco Antiguo.

Day 2: Jungle and Lake Adventure

Take a scenic hike along a beautiful historic trail that was built by the Spanish in the early years of the colony to connect Panama City on the Pacific Ocean to Fort San Lorenzo on the Caribbean. You’ll explore a 10km stretch of the trail that has been protected within the pristine and wild Soberania National Park.

The trail is mostly flat yet offers a physical challenge, taking you through rivers and rainforests teeming with historic landmarks and exotic wildlife. Take a boat journey on Gatun Lake and keep an eye out for three-toed-sloth, green iguana, ospreys, crocodiles, keel-billed toucan and other wildlife.

Day 3: Anton Valley Adventure

Start your day bright and early with a 7am pickup from your hotel. Take a scenic two hour drive through the Anton Valley and arrive at the famous “La India Dormida” or “Sleeping Indian Woman”. Hike through the lush rainforest and then strap on your gear for a thrilling adventure rappelling down the cascading Frog Jump Waterfall. After your forest adventure, head into a lovely nearby town for a delicious local meal, then travel back to Panama City.

Day 4: Chagres River Expedition

Travel deep into the dense jungles of Chagres where the Embera Indians have lived their traditional existence for centuries. You’ll ride up the river in simple hand carved dugout canoes. At the village, glimpse back in time as you observe ancient Embera musical dance performances that haven’t changed since Columbus arrived in the 1500s. Take a trek through the unspoiled wilderness to see sparkling waterfalls and exotic birds.

The Emberas will teach you of their knowledge of healing plants and you will also watch the women of the village weaving beautiful and elaborate baskets from palm leaves and natural dye. You can even have your body painted with the traditional natural fruit dye called Jagua.

Enjoy a delicious meal of fresh fish and plantains, purchase a few unique handicrafts and then say farewell to the Embera as you head back to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort.

Day 5: Finca Lerida Coffee Plantation

For those coffee aficionados, this tour will give you an introduction to the fine art of coffee growing so that you can learn about the soil, micro-climate, genetics and quality of one of Panama’s most valuable crops. You’ll get to see the entire process, from the freshly picked coffee cherry to the final roasted bean.

Finca Lerida has a historic connection to Toleff Boche Monniche, a Norwegian engineer and Royal College of Dresden graduate who worked on the design and construction of the emergency gates of the Panama Canal. The tour ends with a coffee tasting so that you can sample the delicious beans on your own.

Day 6: Rainforest Zipline and Hanging Bridges

This morning may very well be the highlight of your Panama trip as you soar high above the ground through the rainforest. You will glide through the treetops of century-old forests, high above the pristine rivers and waterfalls that make up the incredible collection of natural landscapes bordering La Amistad National Park and the famous Baru Volcano.

The Hanging Bridges Tours is your unique opportunity to enjoy an elevated perspective of the biodiversity of Panama’s tropical clould forest. It is a circuit of 6 suspension bridges covering a 4.5 km route through the treetops.

Day 7: Chiriqui Viejo WhiteWater Rafting

With more than 35 world-class whitewater runs in Panama’s Chiriqui province alone, there is no paddling destination more extraordinary than Panama! For this trip, you will be transferred for about 1-hour from David to Rio Chiriqui Viejo, near Panama’s border with Costa Rica. Originating on the northwest side of Volcan Baru, the Viejo is 128 km long in total and offers several different sections of excellent whitewater, ranging from level 3-5 depending on water levels on trip day. A picnic lunch will also be served.

Day 8: Gulf of Chiriqui Snorkel and Swim

This morning you will be transferred to Pedregal, a small fishing village just a few minutes out-side of David. From there, you will pass through the mangrove forested islands of Laguna de Chiriqui as you make your way toward Golfo de Chiriqui National Marine Park, a 14,740 hectare marine park that encompasses many uninhabited islands and serves as a refuge for howler monkeys, leatherback and hawksbill turtles, tiger herons, and scores of exotic fish. Today you have the opportunity to spend the day snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing in a hammock and on the white sand beaches of Isla Bolaños or Isla Gamez. Return late afternoon to your hotel.

Day 9: Panama City and Miraflores Locks

Panama City is a vibrant, cosmopolitan and beautiful city, Capital of the Republic of Panama, and located at the Pacific side of the American Continent. A vibrant and beautiful metropolis built in 1519, Panama City is one of the most important cities in the Americas. Today you’ll see the major highlights of the city on a private half day tour. Visit the art museums within the Las Bovedas (once used for storing gold) and the monument to the French entrepreneurs who began the Panama Canal. You’ll also see the San Jose Church, the Panama Canal Museum, the National Cathedral and the Presidential Palace.

You’ll also visit the amazing Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal, a marvel of modern engineering. An expert guide will give you an introduction to this impressive world wonder.

Day 10: Say Goodbye to Panama

Today you will be picked up from the hotel lobby approximately 3.5 hours prior to your scheduled departure flight for the private transfer to Tocumen International Airport for your flight home.
